Hiring is one of the most critical decisions an agency can make. But getting it right isn’t as simple as it sounds.

From candidates who interview well but can’t deliver, to job descriptions that don’t attract the right talent, the hiring process is full of challenges you may not have considered.

Sarah White, a recruitment expert at Smile Recruitment, has seen it all: “The interview process starts with the job spec. I don’t think agencies realise that.”

“Some agencies think it’s one way – that the candidate has to impress them and they only have to extract information from them. But you need to sell the opportunity to them.”

How can you really nail your interview process, so you can make sure you’re not only hiring the right person, but also someone you can retain?

Sarah will be sharing her insights on this, including:

  • The importance of job descriptions. Nailing the job spec is key – often agencies use the wrong wording or don’t sell the role well enough to attract the right talent, which only makes the process even longer.
  • The common mistakes agencies make when hiring. For example, Sarah explains: “People have previously recruited someone because they like them – but that doesn’t mean they’re the right person.”
  • How to nail the right interview questions. You need to weed out the right information from candidates, but this isn’t as easy as you think – Sarah will help you figure out the non-negotioable questions to ask.
  • How to structure your interview process. “If you have extended interview processes, you will lose candidates – how would you want the process to run if you were in their shoes? If you do the right thing from the candidate’s side, you will secure the person you want.”

In this session, Sarah will be sharing her insights on what makes a really effective interview process, how to avoid common hiring pitfalls, and the key to finding candidates who are the perfect fit for your agency. These insights will help you make better, more informed decisions.
